Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)

OCT Advanced Retinal Scans

OCT is an advanced retinal scan that takes a 3 dimensional image of the internal structures of the eye and allows us to diagnose potentially sight-threatening conditions years earlier than previously possible. It is suitable for people of all ages and OCT is similar to ultrasound but instead of sound waves, it uses light to illustrate the different layers that make-up the back of the eye. The OCT machine captures both a retinal photo and cross sectional view of the back of the eye at the same time. The scan is non-invasive, quick and simple to take.
Non-Invasive Scans

Early Detection

The OCT can detect any subtle changes, so the next time you have an eye examination, the results are compared. The retinal scan is a good method at detecting abnormalities such as glaucoma, age-related macula degeneration (AMD), diabetic changes, macula holes, vitreous detachments and retinal haemorrhages.
We include this valuable screening scan in our private eye examination and for a small additional fee, we would recommended this for everyone who has an NHS funded eye examination.
